On Long Weekends
As we approach Memorial Day weekend, a "long weekend" for most, I wonder what yours looks like. Lots of barbecues and splash pad time? Or maybe you're traveling, or seeing lots of family.
Or maybe you're not doing anything, and that's exactly what your family needs.
Doing nothing is fine too.
Whatever your holiday weekend holds, let's not forget the basics. There is a certain formula, a recipe for a successful family weekend, and it doesn't have anything to do with Costco splash pads or pasta salad. All we need to have a productive, enjoyable weekend with our family is:
A little rest
Lots of water
Some rays of sunshine
Maybe a vegetable or two
Movement in whatever way sounds fun
Present engagement with each other
That's it. We don't need to overcomplicate things. And guess what? That's all your kids need too! And bonus, if you do these things as a family, you'll be modeling simplicity, the basics that allow us to not just survive, but thrive.
